I'm presently a Respiratory Therapist. I have critical care experience, a science background, and an interest in possibly practicing podiatry.

I'm also 31, so I'd probably be a nontraditional student.

Is it viable (financially) to create a practice focusing on the more traditional aspects of chiropody combined with wound care?

I haven't started clerkships yet but I have spent my fair share of time in the school clinic. 90% of these patients are diabetics, of those 90%, I'd say almost half of them have some degree of neuropathy. That being said, we are always doing some sort of wound care at the clinic. We have one of the best wound care specialists that teaches at our school, let me tell you, she makes plenty of money.

I think wound care is viable, you just have to be good at it just like any other sub-specialty. There are wound care fellowships across the nation, so finding your niche in wounds can definitely happen.

Also, don't worry about your age. There are plenty of students in my class that are non-traditional.
