So I just may find myself as a primary care internist in a few years, and thus am interested in applying to some primary care IM programs along with several categorical. I've been advised to only solicit letters from academic physicians and to not ask a community physician not fully connected with an academic center for a letter. But for primary care programs...it seems reasonable for one of my letters to be from a community internist who can report how I fared in a primary care setting. Does anyone have any experience with this? Anybody else in the same boat? Any sage insights would be appreciated.
