I borrowed the Princeton Review Verbal workbook from one or my friends to study from. After doing 3 passages, I found them to be really difficult. Are they really like the official AAMC tests or what? I just don't wanna have my confidence plummet.

uhh, sorry man, but if anything those tpr verbal passages (early on at least) are if anything on par or easier than the real thing. verbal is something you really have to "build up" to, so dont get discouraged yet 😀

I'd actually like to ask some more people to respond, because I am finding the same thing as the OP, however I have also been working through EK 101 and Kaplan Comp verbal stuff and have been finding them easier than TPR's Verbal Workbook. I don't know if it is because I am just not back into the swing of verbal (i took a small break) or because TPR Workbook (at least the first practice passagages) is harder or what? Just looking for a few more opinions on this....no harm DW.

I did the verbal passages out of last year's MCAT Student Manual and found them to be much more easy than those in the TPR workbook. What do you other guys have to say?

WHen I took the test a couple years ago, I found the TPR VR workbook to be quite similar, if not easier than the real thing (by this I mean easier or similar in difficulty to the AAMC practice tests 3-5 and the actual mcat). However, the ones in the tests A-D are a lot harder, especially the science sections!

hey,

i was told that the passages are actually more difficult my tpr teachers, so that when you do the actual practice tests from aamc, it builds your confidence cuz they're easier!

Verbal has gotten much more difficult recently though, to the point that both Kap and TPR are on par with the real MCAT.

If they ARE harder than the real thing, not more than 5-10% harder on average.

I took TPR for the august mcat and also thought the verbal workbook was hard. Our teacher did say as you go further into the book the passages do get harder. I found the actual mcat verbal to be easier and scored better as a result.

Thanks for the info sharky. I am finding that every fourth passage or so is on the difficult side.

I find the stupid philosophical passages are impossible for me in the PR Verbal Workbook, but as MikeS 78 said in his analyzation of the Verbal section, those passages are normally the hardest on the MCAT so you just hang on and get out of it what you can. The science based passages seem fairly straight forward for the most part, but I'm still towards the front of the book. Hopefully the MCAT Verbal passages won't be much worse. If they are I'm in for a world of trouble.
