Hey guys, i just got into Pritzker and wanted to get your opinions (still waitlisted at Sinai). I am interested in an MD/Phd, pursuing it with or without the combined program...so which would be better for this purpose? I am planning on practicing and doing research so not completely academia...

I know location-wise Sinai wins, maybe also with the minority-diversity issue too, but the financial woes worry me as well as the fact they recently fired some full-time researchers(?) can anyone confirm this? I am very happy to be here now I have struggled so much and was already thinking of reapplying...well please let me know what you guys think...😀

Thank you😛

congratulations, lab-rat!!!

i'm so happy for you! i've been crossing my fingers for you these last few weeks.

anyway, you know how much i love sinai, but i really think that pritzker is the superior research school. so unless pritzker gives you really terrible financial aid, you should forget about sinai and focus all your efforts on preparing for Chicago, baby! btw, Chicago really is an incredible city, and you can always get cheap flights out of there to go visit friends and family in other parts of the country!

Congrats Lab-Rat. All those months of aggravtion finally paid off.

Pritzker is probably a better research school and they probably have a lot more money. They also have one of the best graduate and undergraduate schools in the US. And combined, University of Chicago has produced 30+ Nobel Prize Winners.

As far as location is concerned, even if Chicago is not New York, it is Chicago after all. I pretty sure that you would be able to do most everything there that you would in NYC.

So, take a quick vacation and head for Chicago.

Congrats again.

I would much rather go to Pritzker because of the location. Driving in Manhattan is an impossibility, but Chicago has surprinsingly smooth traffic for a big city. I just got a car this year, and I'd hate to give it up.

I'm not sure what the point of me adding my two cents is as I'm pretty much going to agree with everyone else - Pritzker is a much better research school. However, one caveat is that if you are pursuing MD/PhD then (a) you should look at the # of people from each able to enter it during 1st/2nd year (I assume from your post you are not into MSTP just MD so far) as funding would be a huge issue over 7 or 8 years and (b) if you are going somewhere for 7 or 8 years - you better like the place....which would indicate Sinai might be the better place for *you*. Just check on the possibilities/likelihood/competitiveness of transferring in to MD/PhD at each place.

I am thinking of emailing the director of the program and seeing what the possibility is...maybe apply after my first and after my second year.

I will look into that, but please keep the responses coming, I plan on deciding whether to pest Sinai more, maybe by email, over the weekend...I will ask Sinai about their possibilities for my MD/PhD too...😀

But I cannot stop laughing 😀 😀

Lab-Rat21,

There's a special program for 1st and 2nd years at Pritzker which you can apply to in order to do an MD/PhD. I believe you get your last 2 years of med school funded if you get into the program. From what I heard, they take about 2-3 per year into it. I myself was thinking about it for a time but have since cooled toward doing an MD/PhD.

congrats again btw on Pritzker!
