I'm not sure what Sally's on... In answer to your question, I think you are asking whether there is private practice radiology, to which the answer is yes. Private practice radiology makes up the majority of imaging in the US and Canada. Radiologist groups typically own one or more outpatient imaging centers and perform imaging and interventional procedures on a fee-for-service basis.

In academic practice, university-affiliated radiologists perform and interpret imaging studies, interventional procedures, and do research and teaching. Payment may be fee based or salary based.


The compensation for radiologists is very competitive and they are very much in demand right now.

I'm not sure what Sally's on...

Sally's high on life because she loves her rads residency program. I don't agree with people entering rads for the money. Which to be honest with you, is what was implied by the original thread.

I have to admit I didn't get that vibe from the original post (did they edit it?). Anyway, I'm glad you like your program and specialty. I can't wait to actually start rads. For what its worth, I hate it when people pursue rads for the wrong reasons too...
