Procedure to Withdraw at Different Stages of Application Process??

Hey guys, I was just wondering what the proper procedure to withdraw is for the different stages of the application process. Would a simple phone call suffice for the schools that I haven't heard back from since they sent me their secondary in August?

1) Post-Secondary and No Word?
2) Post-Secondary and Waitlist for Interview?
3) Post-Secondary and Invited for Interview?
4) Post-Interview and Waitlisted?
5) Post-Interview and Accepted?

I've been hearing rumors that for 1-4, a phone call to the admissions office is all I need to do to withdraw and that 5 requires a written letter. Is this true?

i'd call for 1-4 and see if they want to get some kind of written confirmation as well. for 5, definitely put it in writing.
