[PS]Acronyms.. do they get periods between the letters or no?

    For example, I have ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura)... which is part of my essay.. Should it be I.T.P. ... I also have ER... Should it be E.R.?
    Also, CT scan... C.T. or CT scan? Thanks.

    I don't think it will matter. Unless you have an english professor reading your essay (do they have those in med school?), you'll be fine. I'm sure there are plenty of other more relevant things to question you about in your application than that... If you have the space, then go ahead and put the period since it is "technically" correct to do so. But if taking them out gets you under 5300, go for it.

    Imo, it should be CT, ITP, ER, without the periods. I have never seen a scientific acronym that uses periods (ADP, IBS, RuBP, CaMP, FSH, LH, etc)
