Do any of you guys have a list of the essential formulas to know for the Physical Sciences section? My initial assumption was that since the MCAT was supposed to be so "conceptual," no rote memorization was required ... but after taking two practice tests and getting 8PS on both of them (and feeling completely lost through the entire section!) I think I must be wrong. 🙂 Any suggestions?

Yeah, it is conceptual but you still have to know most of the formulas to be able to do some of the problems. If you can get a hold of a TPR physical sciences review book they have all the formulas and some more that you need to know.

ask and ye shall receive! 🙂

Check this out. It has all the formulae you will need, and more. Make sure you don't just memorize the formulae, but you also know how to explain them in plain english. Know how to manipulate the formulae depending on what's asked in the question. Eg: explain boyle's law and tell me what happens if one of it's variables is increased/decreased. That kinda stuff.

Hope it helps!

Hey Tweetie_bird,

That link seems to be broken. I hope you can fix it.

Thanks!

Yep! Works great. Thanks so much.. It looks like a pretty good formula sheet.

Thanks again!

Thanks everybody! Looks like I've got some serious memorizing to do ... 🙂

No problem! I'm here to help.

Chocolate-e: you should really try and not just memorize, but also learn the concepts behind the formulae. I've taken the MCAT before and let me tell you that most of the harder ones will already be given to you. Like on my mcat, Bernoulli's eq was given. It's more important to understand the way these formulae work when you manipulate their variables. Ok? Please tell me that you read this.

Thanks for the input Tweetie_bird! By "understanding the concepts behind the formulae," do you mean, for instance, knowing that at a constant temperature, pressure drops as volume increases, without having to plug numbers into a formula to find this out? Maybe I should just be reviewing my Physics and Gen Chem notes ... or maybe I should just panic, since the April MCAT is only two weeks away ... 🙂

there is an excellent thread on mnemonics for MCAT a few months back. I just saved a few HTML files it pointed to, but SDN wont let me upload them. 🙁 so... if you search for something on MCAT mnemonics, you'll find something good for bio (and, my internet is too slow for me to do that now...)

so.. instead, i will attempt to copy my entire file into this text box. ... except, the file 10,000 characters to long to paste here, it would require about 10 posts 🙁
