Why is it that dispersion effects in a transparent substance are in general greater for shorter wavelengths than for shorter wavelengths? I miss this question in one of the practice tests.

Think of the sky. It's blue because blue light is refracted (dispersed) the most. In a prism, blue light will also be bent the most and red the least.
 
The way I memorize it is by using the n=c/v, v= f(lambda), and knowing that refraction does not change frequency.

Therefore, n is inversely proportional to lambda, and so shorter wavelengths is refracted more.
