- If psychiatry is your "one and only reason" for going to med school, you should honestly consider psychology and psychotherapy instead. I would seriously look into clinical psychotherapy or clinical psychology - they work VERY closely with psych patients, often the same ones that psychiatrists take care of.
The truth is, a VERY large number of people change their minds during medical school. You may absolutely hate psychiatry. I thought I would like it, but I...I didn't.
Furthermore, you will have to study cardiology, surgery, OB/gyn, pediatrics, etc - stuff that you might not be interested in. But you'll need it all in order to graduate.
Medical school is tough. The only reason that you can survive it is if you want to be a
physician - and not just a specialist. You have to want to be a doctor FIRST, and then an xyz specialist after.
