Hi everyone,

I am going to start med school in the Fall and I am interested in Psychiatry. I was just wondering how common it is for psych.s to incorporate psychotherapy into their practices. I heard that insurance companies will not compensate psych.s for this, is this true?

It is true it is HARDER in many cases to get reimbursement, but you can still do it. It is almost impossible to do with every patient you see, but typically how much therapy you do is up to you and/or your employer.

Residency programs still teach it, and the ACGME "competencies" will mandate that residents are proficient in several different types.

It isn't as profitable, but the bottom line is you can do it if you want, and many people are choosing to do it (including me!)

psychotherapy is done by all psychiatrists and you will receive training when you are a resident.

CBT-cognitive-behavioral-training is best

good luck
