In doing research about doing a civilian residency after a military PGY1, I've heard of stories of a military intern year being counted towards a civilian residency (for derm, pm and r, and other specialties that require a primary care PGY1 or TY) but I was wondering if a civilian psychiatry residency would honor a completed psychiatry PGY1 or would require students to start over. Any insight is appreciated since I'm considering active duty prior to finishing residency.

They should honor given it is from and ACGME accredited program. The question is, how easy will it be to find a PGY-2 spot ...?
