Physicians with a current license to practice in Connecticut are eligible to apply for these “Doctor on Call” positions.

The “Doctor on Call” will provide per diem shift coverage for psychiatry consults in the evenings, nights and on weekends. These include inpatient emergency consults for restraints, falls and medical emergencies and psychiatric evaluations in the Emergency Department working with licensed Crisis Clinicians. Our inpatient unit includes 25 adult and 5 adolescent beds. Overnight shifts have sleeping quarters available on site.

Waterbury Hospital is convenient to the New Haven and Hartford areas. We are the only hospital in CT to receive the 2014 HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award, and have also received the Top 100 Hospitals for Critical Care award this year. For the second year in a row we have received a Most Wired Hospital award from the American Hospital Association. We receive consistently positive feedback about the working conditions and experience here from our Psychiatric moonlighting physicians.

Behavioral Health of Waterbury Hospital is committed to meeting the behavioral health needs of our community. We provide a comprehensive continuum of services to the greater Waterbury area. Our goals are to optimize the individual’s highest level of functioning, to promote independence and to ameliorate suffering through the delivery of high-quality, compassionate and cost-effective treatment.

We employ a multidisciplinary approach and encourage the client to be an active participant in treatment. Through a blending of biologic and psychosocial modalities we endeavor to reduce distress, to educate and to heal. We utilize state-of-the-art therapies that assist our clients in achieving their goals in a manner that preserves privacy and promotes personal dignity and hope.

Our services are readily accessible, not only for evaluation and treatment, but for educational and informational purposes as well. Whenever possible, we seek to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and to promote compassion and understanding.
