Hi, I am wondering what the benefit of research and publications will be when applying for residency? I go to a SOM on the west coast and I have a few publications from before medical school and a few from during medical school that are from the same lab (published after I left the lab due to delays in the process). I am wondering how they will help my competitiveness for difficult specialties (like the surgical and ROAD specialities). Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

It's called "Charting Outcomes in the Match".

Yes, you will have the publications box checked on your application. However, some residencies will want to see that you also did research in medical school.
