From yesterday's WSJ online blog:

http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2010/03/17/putting-a-dollar-figure-on-a-doctors-worth-to-a-hospital/

Interesting article and discussion--not that any of this should surprise anyone in anesthesia.

Fuggin' pathetic when I see these stupid articles come out: the only thing that the public sees is "wow!, look at how much this guy or that guy makes.." There's never any mention of the debt burden or how long it took (in sweat, blood and tears/years) to get there. Fuggin' morons.

This from the "comments" says it all:

Hospital Exec. wrote:
Insurance Companies and Hospitals can agree on one thing, Doctors are just fancy proletariat workers who diminish the profits of our companies….

It is even more true for the hospital based specialties:

Radiology
Anesthesiology
Pathology
Emergency Medicine
That's some balls. Those hospital CEO's make a **** load more than we do and still view us as there little parasitic biotches. Muther fuggers! Boy would I love to be a hospital CEO.:laugh::laugh:

Wow, talk about the pot calling the kettle black. I have trouble thinking of anything more useless than a hospital adminitrator.

Hence, the rise of SURGI-CENTERS. Cut the admin cost.

I agree - for the vast majority of the public, the wealthiest person they actually talk to is their doctor. AND they have no idea of how much education is involved. Top that off with the fact that most people never meet, in person, someone who is truly wealthy (like a hospital CEO). When would a CEO hang out with the "common man". Never. How often do doctors treat the "common man". They're the bulk of our patients. So people think "Doctors make so much money. They need to be knocked down." And so they support it.

An observation. I don't think there's anything that can be done about this perception. It is what it is.:(
