Question about Assistant professor position at medical school

I am a hard science researcher and I`ve recently started a negotiation about assistant professor position offer with a psychiatry department school of medicine. The school would like to hire me as an assistant professor but they asked me what would be my base salary that I would request?. They have experience with MDs and I ama PhD. Does anyone have experience with salaries of hard science faculty at school of medicine and how it is determined?

Is it a public school or private school?
