I applied really late in the cycle, and I thought I was probably just wasting money applying this late. But I just found out today that biochem is a requirement for some of the schools I applied to like Maryland, Penn, and Tufts. I feel so stupid for not knowing that, and I feel like I definitely wasted money since most schools recommend you take biochem. I wanted to ask if anybody has information about applying to Maryland, Penn, or Tufts without taking biochem or not listing it as course you intend to take? I already graduated or I guess would have definitely taken it next semester. But I didn’t even list it as course I intended to take on my application. If anybody has information or an experience with applying to Dental school without biochem please let me know. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Many schools require it because it is usually a part of first-year curriculum...while everyone else is learning the material for a second time, you are seeing it for the very first time, and it is not an easy subject. That's why so many schools require it...if you don't have it, you're a bit of a liability to them because you're already behind your classmates.

as long as you can take it in the spring semester, you'll be fine (at least that's the case at Tufts, I don't know about the other 2)

Not likely to be a liability since if biochem is a requirements it is unlikely that they will be accepted.

hey it's fine if you haven't taken it yet, but you must take it in the spring semester in most cases, and some schools may let you take it the summer before matriculation. I got into University of Maryland (and sent my deposit in there) and I just started Biochemistry this January.

I also just interviewed at Tufts a few days ago and the admissions office just asked me to send them the course information of the Biochem class I was enrolled in.
