I have a question...say you do an FP residency in an urban city, and you mostly learn and get strong exposure to the internal medicine, pediatrics and gynecologic aspects of FP

and you decide to practice in the rural atmosphere, would you be expected to practice the OB and surgery components?

It doesn't really work that way. The needs of rural communities are highly variable. Some communties need FP to do operative OB, some don't. It should be very clear before you relocate/hang up a shingle what expectations/needs are. There's no way you'll show up the first day with a greeting of, "Suprise! There are ten women in L&D in labor, you need to get over there."

so then there is a demand for a more medicine-oriented (as opposed to surgical-oriented) FP spots in the rural world?

Big time. Most rural communities will take what they can get.
