If given the disaccharide I know the type of linkage but when I look at the drawing in the textbook and my TPR class notes I get a little confused...
The text books make it look like when drawn out that a Beta linkage will appear straight in nature, where an alpha linkage isn't... but at the bottom is says the anomeric carbon points down.... to me it looks like it is planar with all the other carbons in the ring. this is kinda tough to explain... but does anyone have a surefire way to tell whether a drawing of a disaccharide tells whether the linkage is alpha or beta
