How common or uncommon is it to use a single LOR from one professor for a few different reasons?
For example, my organic chemistry professor and I established a good relationship and I got an A in the course without any curve. I would like an LOR for medical school as well as for applying to a research position in another professors lab. Would asking him for an LOR for 2 different reasons be impractical?
As of now, I do not have any other science professors to ask because gen chem went awfully and I took both bio courses at a community college during high school.
Thanks for any help.

It is normal to ask for an LOR that can be tailored to various applications. Just give him/her a heads-up.
Okay thank you.

Anyone else have any advice or opinions about this?
