I was wondering if it is necessary to email residency programs my MATCH code number. I received MATCH instructions and how to submit rank order lists the other day, and this is what the document says...

"Programs must use your applicant Code Number to rank you on their Rank Order Lists. Therefore, you should
provide this Code Number to each of the programs to which you have applied.
Your password/PIN should be
kept strictly confidential, as it controls access to your Rank Order List and Match result. Programs need to know
your applicant Code Number, but they do not need to know your password/PIN. Provide only your applicant Code
Number in all communications with programs to which you have applied."

Do any current pharmacists or residents have any input on this? I assume my PhORCAS application would have my MATCH code number included.

Thanks

We can look you up, and besides, you put it on your CV, right?

It's also our way of bending the match rules without breaking them. If you get a phone call from a director/RPD asking for your match number, you know you ended up on their rank list without us telling you so.

It's like texting a cute girl and asking what her phone number is :meanie:

Crap. No, I didn't put my code number in my CV (stupid me).

Thanks for your answer. Would you recommend that I still email programs, that I interviewed for, my MATCH number? Or would that be seen as annoying? => like asking a cute girl out one too many times and she's just not that interested :uhno:

I wouldn't email them with your Match number as I would expect it to be very easy to track down on PhorCAS for the program. They likely printed off your PhorCAS materials for your file and it should be all over those forms.

Your match code is on your Phorcas app. Programs can always look you up. It might only be an issue if you have a really common name.

Thank you all again for your input!

On a random note, I've been mulling over an interview question about how I handle stress on a daily basis...I said music, and I elaborated on that. But I somehow slipped in 2pac in there, and now I'm worried that answer is going to stop me from getting ranked for that institution.

Cray, I know. March 22nd can't come soon enough.

If they actually care what music you listen to and that weighs on their decision then you wouldn't want to work with them anyway.

LOL, you shouldn't want to work somewhere that DOES NOT appreciate 2Pac. IF anything it shows you are not a square

It should be fine. I've quoted the song "99 problems" to a preceptor during residency.

I just noticed that now, hah. Too many damn numbers in there.

Got an email from RPD with THEIR match# -- this is a good sign right? Or, maybe they send that to everyone after interviewing. I need to stop over analyzing everything about this process.

Me too! ..3/6 of my programs sent me long thank you emails with their match number. I can't tell if it is a courtesy thing or a good sign?

Good luck!

I haven't received anything from any of my programs yet. Hope that's not bad...

I figure some programs probably send out a email after interviews and some don't. I got one yesterday that said feel free to contact me with any questions about our program as you make your decisions for a place I interviewed at 2 weeks ago. It seemed pretty much like the type of email that would get sent to everyone they interviewed.

Keep the faith! Plus you have a job to fall back on just in case. Around here I can't even find a job (I've interviewed at every chain and been told we love you we're just not hiring). I'm figuring if no match, I might end up unemployed for a bit.

I had a program not only send me their match number but request mine as well. I think this is a positive sign seeing as I had my match number on my letter of intent lol

Yeah, I know everyone keeps telling me to be happy that I have a job. It's kind of a sad world where you have a job offer making great money, but the thought of having to take it after graduation is a bit depressing. Makes me feel kind of guilty in a way.

I know. My original plans didn't even involve residency (figured I wasn't a competitive enough candidate) but when I realized this fall that the chance of me even finding a job was slim, I talked to a few profs at school and they convinced me that I was selling myself short on a residency. The way I look at it, I'll be disappointed if I don't match cause I really like the programs I interviewed at but I won't be any worse off job wise than I was in November.
