okay. I just wasn't sure how heavily they take the optional essay into account if you choose to write it. like if they just glance over it or they read it super in depth and stuff

So I've read that if you choose not to write an optional essay, that's completely fine. However, if you do decide to write an optional essay, would that negatively or positively impact chances of admission in any way? Like, I'm wondering how heavily they will weigh the optional essay if someone chooses to fill it out. Thanks!

It depends upon what you have to say and how well or poorly you have to say it.
