Hi, I've never really posted anything on a forum before, but here it goes I guess.

To provide a little background information, I had my interview at Buffalo late Nov. and didn't get my waitlist status 'til about a few days ago. I then just received a letter today saying that I now have an "Alternate status".
First of all, what does this mean? Is this any better than being waitlisted or have any indication of where I'm headed?
Also, I was wondering if people heard of many applicants for buffalo getting this on alternate list as well.
Additionally, is there anything I should or can do at this point, besides waiting?
Any other information regarding UB Dental, advice or insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure what an alternate status is, but I doubt you are an alternate for the waitlist, so I am guessing that it is a good thing...Keep your fingers crossed, if the number of alternates is low, at this point you are probably looking pretty good at getting a seat. You could always call Barbara and ask her though, just to be sure. She will probably have an idea of how likely an acceptance is off of the alternate list at this point in the game.

You can call them and reiterate your strong interest in attending Buffalo. Just don't over do it by calling to frequently.

I just declined my acceptance at UB. I hope you get my spot!

I also recently declined my seat. I hope that increases your chance. 🙂

Guys at this point it isn't that his chances increase they could just increase the number of people to invite for the interview. If you really want to increase his chances is to turn down the invites or acceptances from Feb/Mar and on. When the application process begins to sort of wind down for this cycle.

I know how you feel OP. I've been hanging out with my alternate list judgment for the last 3 weeks. I loved UB and I'm quite sad that I didn't get it. OH WELL. So, life goes on.

Actually, if an alternate list is what I am thinking, then by declining seats it does increase his or her chances of being accepted. Pretty sure an alternate list is made up of people that will be offered a seat if the seat is turned down by the person who was first offered the seat. So, if there are 10 people on the alternate list, 10 people who have received offers will have to turn them down for those on the alternate list to get an acceptance. I could be wrong, but I believe that is how it works. If I am right, being on the alternate list now is probably a good place to be...there will be lots of people changing their minds between now and August.

I'm also on Alternate list and my AADSAS page says Wait listed now...
UB has been my top pick ever since i decided to become a dentist and I loved my interview there...
Now I'm glad I still have a chance to get in but the question is how big is alternate list.....
Does anyone know how big the alternate pool is and how many get off that list etc?

Right now the chances of being taken off the alternate list doesn't change if others decline acceptance to UB, this is because they don't begin to reconsider those they have put on the waitlist/alternate list for acceptance until early spring...sorry I know this doesn't make anyone on the alternate list feel better, but I'm on it too, so I naturally made some calls and found this out. It sucks but it's info I'm sure some of you might want to know.

Hey fellow alternate listers! I heard we might have to wait until April! How's that for trying to make arrangements moving out of state, eh?

That's insane. I'm sure he's still pretty happy though. I know a lot of us would take the short notice move over another small fortune in application fees. But still!

I was waitlisted there last year and didn't get in. I don't think many people got in off the waitlist last year at all. Sorry

so they really do interview til feb/march? when do they stop sending out these invites? i called but couldn't get any such info

I just interviewed at UB March 13th 🙂
I found out that I am on the waitlist March 18th 😕
Made a call to inquire about the aformentioned waitlist... shouldn't expect to hear from them until May 🙁🙁🙁
The waitlist is ranked... but the ranking is confidental 🙁
And, date of interview takes no precedence on ones position on the waitlist:laugh:
