Hey everyone,

I know that this coronavirus is serious and should be taken seriously. I had a question for adcoms and was wondering if this pandemic will give medical schools
more incentive to offer first two pre-clinical years of medical school online. Some articles say that this pandemic could last up to 18 months and I know that there are a lot of
unknowns.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

Is that possible though? I imagine some labs like anatomy will need to have an in person component.
I am unsure about the lab portion but that is a good point. Maybe someone in medical school currently or ad
com can comment on it.

Regardless of coronavirus, I think the preclinical years of medical education are likely to move to online-only in the long term. Zeke Emanuel at Penn wrote a really good article about this that was published in JAMA a couple of months ago and is reprinted here: The Inevitable Reimagining of Medical Education | Online Learning.
This was a great article. Thank you for sharing. It makes so much more sense to allow students to study preclinical education on their own and then apply to the clinical years and onward. U.S is one of the only countries that even requires a Bachelors degrees for admission. To me it just wastes unnecessary time. At least it's great for those who dont get in while can have a backup plan but still.
