What are your concerns about that? Just not educated on the topic, or something else?
I don't think athletes contribute more to society than doctors. They contribute entertainment and docs contribute healthcare. I think the latter is more important obviously.
I'm not sure if sports injuries are that huge of a sacrifice. In the VAST majority of the cases, they are minor and athletes recover completely. I think in that case the neurosurgeon that has sacrificed his sleep, leisure, and family time for decades would beat the NBA player who played for 10 years and sustained the occasional rolled ankle or torn ACL. I think football players with CTE are an exception here, but again they are the minority of athletes.
