For those who went to Temple, did your electives taken during years 1 & 2 help your match? If so, how much of a factor do you think it played in your match and choice of sepcialty? Her is my situation, I've just been accepted to Temple and the main thing pulling me towards temple and not other schools is their electives during year 1&2. I'm thinking about radiology. Would taking Diagnostic Imaging Techniques year 1 and Intro to Diagnostic Radiology year 2 as electives give me more of an advantage then going to a school that doesn't offer such electives during the preclinical year? Well these electives better prepare me for my away rotations or are these electives not to helpful at all, and are just window dressing?

It can't hurt to have those electives, but it's far from your #1 reason for picking a medical school. Temple grads do no better than comparable schools in securing Radioogy spots - a very competitive field these days. I didn't go there, but the real strength of Temple is their patient population - sick as they come.

I picked my school on location. You will have down time, and that time is better spent if you're in a great city/area. If you can, I would go to med school in California, Boston, or Chicago.. great places with great schools. There really isn't a bad program in any of these places.

That said, I'm sure you'll like Temple if you go... but, you can go rads from anywhere as long as you hustle.

I'm a 3rd year student at Temple. The electives during year 1 and 2 are virtually meaningless when it comes to matching. They are purely to fulfill any clinical interests that you may have in a particular field.
