It looks like I will be attending Touro next year but I'm a little worried about their accreditation status... or lack thereof. I know that they have pre-candidate accreditation status and that they won't be fully accredited until the first class graduates in 2009 but are any of you guys worried about this? What happens if I graduate and the school does not receive full accreditation? I know I won't be able to take the licensing exam and how useful will that Pharm.D. be without a license? Thanks in advance for your replies.

congrats on getting accepted. i am applying there next year. Can u share ur GPA, major, Univ.

thanks a lot.

Everyone knows what happened with Hawaii. They lost their pre-accredidation status and everyone that was attending that school was out of luck. It's always a risk but Touro does have other programs and they are a satalite school from the east coast. So it seems like they know what they are doing.

Hawaii did not even have preaccreditation. Touro is doing ok... just to clarify

This is taken directly from ACPE's website:

Candidate: A new program that has students enrolled but has not had a graduating class may be granted candidate status. The granting of candidate status denotes a developmental program, which has taken into account ACPE accreditation standards and is expected to mature in accord with stated plans within a defined time period. Reasonable assurances exist that the program will become accredited as programmatic experience is gained, generally, by the time the first class has been graduated. Graduates of a class designated as having candidate status have the same rights and privileges as graduates of a program that has accreditation status.

Currently, Touro has pre-candidate status. Candidate status would be their next step. I am sure they are trying to achieve this step now. ACPE should be updating their website soon to show the results of their recent meeting. I wouldn't be surprised if Touro was listed to receive an on-site visit so that they may be considered for Candidate status in the June meeting. As you can see from the paragraph above, once candidate status is achieved, students have the "same rights and privileges as graduates of a program that has accreditation status." So, once they receive candidate status students can graduate and still sit for boards and receive their license. Once the first class graduates then ACPE can determine if full accreditation can be earned. So if everything goes well and "according to plan" the first class will graduate with Candidate status, which will still allow them to sit for boards and become Pharmacists, and the second class could graduate with full accreditation status.

From what I have heard about Touro it seems they are on the right track and know what they are doing. No comparison to HICP.
