I'm just curious about the elusive "Hold for Decision" status at Downstate. I tried to do a search, but couldn't seem to find anything out about what it means. Is it the same as waitlist? Or is it something different?

I was really excited because I himmed and hawwed and finally decided to apply there at the end of October. My app wasn't completed until November, and they called me at the end of December to offer me an interview in the beginning of January. So, of course, I thought this was a good sign. Then I get the hold for decision, and have no idea what to think of it.

Please inform if anyone knows about it. Thanks!

"Hold for decision" means exactly what itv says: they have not yet made a decision whether or not to offer you a place, nor whether or not to put you on the wait-list. You are in limbo for the time being. Downstate, unlike many medical schools, does not wait until classes start to notify those who were rejected. You have not received a rejection notice so you have not been rejected. What and when when you will hear anything is presently unknown. If you ARE rejected, you can request counseling from them and MAY be given a clue to whatever led to the rejection.
