Can anyone tell me if they focus more on primary care or research? And what most people end up in what residency? Thanks...

At my interview i was told by my interviewer that medical students don't do research during school and that if I wanted to I should be applying MD/PHD. So it made me feel that they are very primary care/clinical care school. I was put on hold and withdrew...
