I received a question today that I'm hoping someone can help me out on. I was asked why someone would want to give Forteo (synthetic parathyroid hormone) to a dialysis patient. My response would be that you wouldn't... you don't need any more parathyroid hormone in dialysis if anything you're going to get hyperparathyroidism. Also there are no studies out about this topic (it says so on the drug packaging). Does anyone know anything about this or can voice an opinion?

yeah I was under the impression that you get hyper-PTH in Chronic renal failure due to less Ca, more P and low Vitamin D.

So I'm stumped
