So, my interviewer gave me his card and told me if I had any questions I could call him. I really want to go to this particular school, so I decided to call him and tell him that I really enjoyed my interview, and thank you very much, blah blah blah. Well, I got his secretary, and I wasn't sure what to say, so I left my name and number and said that I had a question. He called me back and left a message on my voicemail.

Now I need to think up a question that's not completely idiotic! What should I ask? Or should I say I found the answer to the question on my own, thank you very much for your time.

Of course not, dear Katie! You simply tell him that you're calling to reiterate your interest in the school, and that you are hoping he'd help advocate this interest in you. Ask him if there is anything you could do while you wait for an answer to assist in convincing the adcom. Also, ask how he is doing, and make references to anything he might have mentioned in the interview. Ask him - in a joking, cute way - if there is any advice he can offer to you as you very anxiously wait. Talk. Be natural. Listen. End with very genuine thanks.
