I'm currently a sophmore and have been taking light course load every semester (12-15 hrs). I had a 3.7 gpa 1st semester, 1.2 gpa semester two, and 3.8 gpa semester three and I'm positive Ill have a 4.0 gpa this semester. If I maintain very high gpa from this point on (and take heavy course loads), will that 1.2 and 4 semesters of light course load hurt me substantially?????? Thank-you and I luv you guys...

won't hurt

i love you too

it hurts. but as long as you maintain your other semester gpas you should be fine.
the schools will probably just ask you about what happened.
don't sweat it.. just make sure your next 2 years are done well.

i don't think they actually even really look at course load that much. just as long as you're a full time student doing at least 12 credits- you should be kosher.
good luck.

lavidee is right. The course load shouldnt play into it at all. I had one 18 credite semester and the rest were pretty much 13-15's, which by the way is average not light. So I don't think that yo have much to worry about there. About the 1.2, As long as you have a valid reason, not an excuse, for the low gpa you will be fine. I mean college is a growth period and everyone has different challenges. The fact that you bounced back from it should show how determined and resilient you are. good luck!

as far as adcoms are concerned, the above posters are correct when they say whether or not you take a moderate or heavy courseload doesn't matter much. however, the heavier the course load (provided you do well), the quicker your overall gpa will go up. it would be to your advantage to take lots of courses before you graduate to try to balance out the one bad semester. were the bad grades in science courses? if so, take lots of science courses and get high grades to balance it out. if the bad grades were not science courses, they probably will not hurt you quite as much. also, you should probably retake any premed courses you got less than a C/C+ in -- not only to show that you can do the work but also to get a solid foundation in them for the mcat.

listen to lola and laviddee!

as long as you maintain enough hours to be a full-time student, and continue doing well, you should be fine. however, be ready with a valid reason (not an excuse, a reason) when interviewers ask you about it. best of luck to you!

be ready to explain that 1.2 though....i cant figure it out from your post, what happened 😕

we 😍 you too 😉
