What exactly were your job duties when you started at an inpatient hospital?

I recently interviewed at a hospital in the Bay Area for the position of a pharmacy intern and was asked about duties I think I will be performing initially. I had minimal ideas.

In addition, I will be interviewing at Kaiser shortly and would really appreciate insights on duties pharmacists perform at both inpatient/outpatient Kaiser pharmacies and how they differ from other hospitals or retail pharmacy jobs.

Thanks

I'd just turn the question around and ask them what they normally have their interns do, when they are just starting out. It's kind of a ridiculous question, and totally deserves to be turned back on the questioner. I mean, why should you have any idea, if you've never worked in a hospital pharmacy before?

On a side note, I have the same objection to interns calling themselves "student pharmacists" that I have with medical students calling themselves "student doctors." For whatever reason, it's always the last word of the phrase that people latch onto, so all they really hear is "pharmacist" or "doctor," which is completely misleading, since the first implies having taken and passed a licensure exam, and the second implies graduation from medical school (which itself implies having taken and passed two licensure exams). Sorry if that seems nitpicky, but they still hang people in Texas for stuff like that. --Just kidding... or AM I? :meanie:

Hmmmm... I've never heard of anyone being called a "student pharmacist" until now. I didn't know the phrase existed.....
