studying?!?!!? i wish i could just study ana. 🙁

this new team im on delegates a lot more stuff to the 3rd year students. today i had to go talk to pathologists, call 2 different social workers, spend 30 minutes on the phone waiting for some radiology secretary so that I could prioritize one of my patients CT scans...... etc, I guess its part of the training but it really is like a full time job. i spent 9 hours in the hospital today post call and now have to study for an EKG exam this thursday, sucks. its internal medicine though, this rotation is supposed to be a bear no matter where it is. it just sucks that its gotten worse this last 2 weeks leading into finals.

sounds so crazy!! good luck sweetie...:luck: :luck: :luck:

I'm watching commercials for the Insider on fox with "brave Jessica" at almost 400 pounds. After doing an internet search it doesn't look like she has a syndrome (i.e. Prader-Willi) that would cause obesity. It makes me feel like her parents are abusing her!

That's really bad - I don't know anything about it but if they aren't taking steps to help her they are being incredibly irresponsible.

I know a 4 year old girl who weighs nearly 100 pounds. She apparently has some sort condition (no clue what it is) where she cannot sense when she is full so she overeats all the time. I guess there is a treatment for it but her parents are refusing it because they are worried about the side effects. 😡 What about the side effects of being that big at that age?? I wish there were a way to force the parents to allow her to be treated.

That's Prader-Wili isn't it? I could be wrong.

Okay so I'm not asking for medical advice but let's just say that a certain person has a certain REALLY intense pain in the posterior aspect of the knee (more laterally than medially) no corresponding swelling (no baker's cyst). How long would you think she should wait to see if the pain resolves (because she was just an idiot and ran 5 miles) before she goes to the doctor to check for something more serious?

I'm only worried because my knee feels really "weak" and almost buckled on me.

Ouch - feel better Ana.

I used to be a runner - 5 miles every day but I got to the point where my knees couldn't handleit anymore, so I gave it up. 🙁 I'm a low-impact exerciser now.

On a related note, I was watching health discovery with my roommates the other day and there was a show on called medical mysteries. The story was about a boy who kept getting sick on his birthday and he had epilepsy. Turns out the mom was poisoning him to get her husband's attention. That is soooooooo sick and inhumane. I don't know how anyone could do that to their own child. She got charged for 1 count of torture and 12 counts of abuse or something like that and is in prison for life without parole. Thank the good lord she is in prison and its not one of those typical cases where the parents still get away with the abuse. But that just made me sick and I don't understand how even the cruelest of people could hurt someone as innocent as a young child.

garbanzo beans are an aphrodisiac

Ha! We use garbanzo beans in a lot of Indian dishes. Have you ever had channa masala?? I remember q telling me one time that was one of her favorite dishes. You might like if it if you love garbanzo beans. 😀

That's a symptom of Prader-Willi, but could also be a hypothalamic issue too.
Prader Willi is typically a maternal chromosomal mutation. I've seen a few kids for tx with Prader-Willi. Believe it or not, they are typically "failure to thrive" for the first year or so because they have such hypotonia and can't coordinate the suck-swallow reflex for feeding, thus are usually malnourished and typically have add'l nutrition via NG tube.

Once their motor skills kick in, cognitive issues and not ever feeling full are the forefront of the problem.

mmmmmmm guju is making me hungry. 🙂

I have, however, been insanely ill (the crap/crud/cold/sinus infection/bronchitis) and we are smack in the middle of finals here at Carey, so i'm losing my mind.

However, due to my good friend Celestone, life is coming back together, and so is my MCAT studying.

Just a quick hello.. I'm doing AAMC 7 today.

I'd tell that person that if the pain was a 'burning' one, they'd do well to see someone. Only because your knee shouldn't buckle like that. But what do I know????

:luck:

Oh man I love that dish 😍

Palak Paneer (I know I'm spelling that wrong) is my absolute favorite and the place I used to go to all the time had fantastic pakora (sp? again).

Pain's better today. My dad has an appt with his orthopedic surgeon next week so he's going to try and sqeeze me in while I"m there. I'm sure he can't tell me much without an MRI so I'm hoping the pain is gone by then. :scared:
