Random non-pathology and only peripherally related to pathology thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Makes you wonder how it is that these people never get caught at their own game.

I've never been able to figure it out. I've seen numerous people do it and NEVER get caught, but I always figured honesty was the best policy and would say "I've really enjoyed this rotation and I've especially enjoyed being propositioned by a pimp, but I just don't see my future in psychiatry." This led to the inevitable "lack of enthusiasm" comment on my evals, but at least I didn't feel bad about it.

I think they have to do this. They have to hand out a certain number of comments, and they take advantage of people who aren't going to go into their field to dump those comments on them. I got that comment in pedes. Could have shown more interest in pediatrics. Whatever, dudes. Just because someone stops in the library for 2 minutes and prints out whatever up to date says about adenovirus doesn't mean they're interested in pediatrics.

I have a few more functions available to me than a regular moderator. And, sMods are supposed to help out when needed and cover areas outside of their designated forums.

On peds, one of my comments was, "Try to remember that you can learn something in every rotation no matter what you are going into."

I was thinking, no, actually, that isn't true.

Clinical evals are mostly bullsh*t anyway...you know that!

Damn straight. I approached every clerkship in exactly the same way, but my grades ranged from an A+ to a B.

One attending would criticize my enthusiasm, another would praise my enthusiasm.

One resident called me the "worst med student she had ever seen". Another resident called me the "best med student he had ever seen".

Some people would react positively when I told them I was going into pathology. Other residents would make comments like "oh, so you don't like people?" (Well, as a matter of fact, I don't think much of you right now, you wretched skank.)

I mean WTF? 😡 I probably should've learned to grease the wheels a little bit better, but I refuse to blow sunshine up someone's ass. "Hey team, check out these exciting articles on decubitus ulcers I downloaded last night! Also, last night when I had some free time, I developed a website that discusses the intricacies of vaginal discharge!!! I really love (insert current rotation)!!!!!

Yeah those gunners would show up with articles printed out about all this crap. Pediatrics, people would show up with articles on seizures and Ewing's Sarcoma and all that. We had a nice day where we had a girl with Ewing's Sarcoma and I knew a lot about it since my PSF, and I had seen a few cases. But hey, another med student brought in a journal article! What a great student! Didn't matter that she didn't read it or understand it, it still showed enthusiasm, right? And when I told them about mic-2/CD99 and the differential diagnosis of small round blue cell tumors and how Ewing's is not an obvious diagnosis they were like, "huh?" and went back to asking the other student about her magnificent review article.

That is how I feel about getting up at 3:30. Time to go fishing now. Remind me to kick myself later, ok?

Did you catch me a delicious bass?

WTF I just printed out a journal article in PDF format, and it didn't print out any of the "i"s.

The name of the article is: A Pract cal Approach to Ped atr c Pat ents Referred W th an Abnormal Coagulat on Profile (yes, for some reason that last i came through).

Sometimes I really don't understand computers. a fam ly h story of bleed ng was reported n 116 pat ents. F fty one pat ents... +pissed+ I can't read this!

OMG that **** cracked my ass up, lemme tell ya! We had one girl on our cardiology service who would do that **** nonstop and bug the attending. I heard she didn't get honors...but again, they don't give that many honors grades on our medicine clerkship.

P=MD

Some people try real hard and try to go down on attendings and senior residents. They will spend long hours at the hospital to have more "face time" (if you know what I mean). And they get a Pass and get all pissed off. F*cking hilarious!

Some people get their **** done and leave and go home and play games or go out to the bars. They get a Pass too.

What's the frickin' point?

P=MD

Move on.

No. But I did catch 3 salmon. The 3 closest to me are the ones I caught. I am the one not wearing a hat.

Yeah, this butthead doing surgery the same time as me kept showing up early, and asking the attendings if he could do small favors for them, and helping the residents whenever possible, asking to do things in the or, blah blah, skipping conferences so they could assist on an ass reconstruction or something. Meanwhile I did nothing except show up on time and sign up for cases with as little suturing as possible, and offering to do the occasional H&P (to get out of going to the OR, but they didn't know that), and I only missed conference once (always said I had to leave to go to conference 😉 ), and that was because the attending told me if I left the patient might die. I got honors. Then again, I knew how to stage cancer and knew more about pathology then they did, so maybe they thought I was smart or something.

There exists a little known code that you can punch into the phones here that allows you to overhead page into individual ORs.. could be useful in a similar situation. 🙂

Well, turns out the surgeon was at a different hospital, and didn't get back here until 9:30 pm at which point they started. 😳 Nice of them to tell us.

My **** is done for the day. I would very much like to leave and go home and play games. But no, the rest of my team is in the OR so I have to sit here and hang out until they are done. Then probably all that will happen is they will tell us what time we are rounding tomorrow. Ah well, SDN time I guess...

We are not signing out tomorrow, leaving everything for friday. Attending wants to both sign everything out and go for indian food on friday. It's always indian food, isn't it? Medical people, even non indians, are OBSESSED. Obsessed, I tells you!

My Centrino just plopped in the department, right in the middle of signout 😳

It is so light and so fast and so cool!! 😀

Laptop today, car tomorrow! *bounce* T minus 26 hours... to no more 45-minute busrides! Wahey!

I am so not going to sleep tonight.

F*ck that. I would've gone home. Surgery was my last rotation so I didn't give a rats ass about feeling obligated to sit around and remain at the hospital. So when I was in your situation, I did in fact go home.

Lemme guess...Raja Rani? There are a few Indian restaurants in A2 (Raja Rani, Shalimar, and Madras Masala)...I'd have to say that Raja Rani has the best lunch buffets. When I was working in the LSI building after med school ended, we would go there like 1-3 times a week. Then we'd come back and fill the lab with Indian fart odor and point our fingers at those who didn't go while saying, "Dude, you need to take a ****. Your fart smells like a yeti."

If you don't like it, just don't go. Be like the guy from Office Space. BTW, does anyone know when Office Space 2 is coming out?

You aren't hardcore. If you were, you would have said "F*ck that. I would've gone to the bar." 😛

That would be about right.

I promise I did check in with my car broker, write to my mum and get directions to the car dealer's before logging onto SDN. 😳

Time for bed!

I have no idea. All I know is that dinner will have to be someplace good to get the taste (or lack of taste, I should say) out of my mouth. I am still going to go, it's disrespectful not to go.

I think it's weird. When you go out with indian people, it always seems like you go out for indian food. But why can't indian people go out with me to a polish restaurant? They always seem to make excuses about "not being able to find something to eat." So I say, "well, that's like me with indian food" and then they accuse me of being uncreative and unwilling to try new things. WTF, who is the one who is refusing to go to the polish restaurant? Double standard.

Here's an idea...Dominick's for lunch! Sangria after signout!

I miss Ann Arbor...I'm planning on coming back there during my first vacation week. And for old times sake, I'm gonna be perpetually trashed.

But you're always eating chicken teriyaki! 🙂
I haven't had any for awhile. Twice since I moved in July, and both times I had to cook for 5 people. Oh yeah, and one time my roomate and I got teriyaki after buying socks on clearance at Target. I am willing to bet I own more pairs of socks than anyone else on SDN. My socks occupy the biggest drawer of my dresser.

I still find it odd that there are polish restauraunts. We don't have any out this way.

Polish people have to eat too. And there is a culture. Ethnic restaurants are not limited to those based on the food of equatorial areas, despite what the media would have you believe.

My grandmother is Croatian. I would not pay for her cooking. Do you like half potato sized lumps in your mashed potatoes? 👎

Thay do not have to eat. They can go on a hunger strike if they choose to. 🙄

I think I have plantar fasciitis. My feet have been hurting worse and worse to the point that I literally cannot walk when I get up in the morning. I have gotten expensive orthotics, wrap my arches, and do stretches, and it is still getting worse all the time. 🙁

Yes I do have the weekend off, thank goodness!!

It is desperately needed! The last few weeks on surgery have definitely exacerbated whatever is wrong with my feet. Before this it was just a nuisance, now it is practically disabling.

I start at the VA on Monday. 😉

Come to think of it, I do remember the first steps after getting out of bed every morning being quite painful during most of clerkships (and it wasn't just the mental anguish I am talking about).

Excellent! She is expecting you, although she doesn't know who to look for. 😀

Have you tried rest and NSAIDs? 😛

They are going to hurt if you stand alot. That's a given. Every once in awhile my feet are really sore i'll take a pair of naproxen before work. It makes a huge difference.
