Just had an interview at UConn. The students are awesome - the faculty rocks. Now, I have to wait till Feb 20 to see if they want me in their number. Grr. Anybody else interviewed at UConn recently?

I did! Last Monday. I LOVED UConn so much. So much. I hope to hear something. What'd you think about that PBL session? It was interesting...but I was really tired by that point!

I was really tired by that point!

Glad to see that I wasn't the only one 😉 It was all I could do to keep from falling asleep as we discussed the "dehydrated brothers."

I really like the PBL idea. There's a school in Canada (McMaster) that supposedly uses only PBL. That may be too far, though. 😛 McMaster is still my #1 choice, though (can't resist the opportunity to do an M.D. in three years).

But back to UConn. Isn't the faculty great? Did the dean of students come to see you and tell you that it was his job to care for students? Everyone is so nice. My friend is there now and he loves it.

So, how was your interview? Mine was okay, sort of. I'm a little worried about some questions, but it's over now, so no use obsessing, right? 😉

Hey guys!

Sista Karen.....weren't you supposed to be interviewing on the 6th of Dec at UConn. It was the day after that snow storm, so the weather was not great for travelling. I should know cause I drove all the way from Toronto right through it! Wasn't too much fun, but made for a nice ice breaker 🙂

I really enjoyed my time at UCOnn as well. My student was awesome, and my faculty member was equally as great. I think my interview went very well....we were very informal, and had wonderful discussions about the current state of the health care system, and spent a lot of time talking about my entire family. It was cool.
I would really like to go there, however, I understand that they take few out of state applicants. The chances from what I hear of getting in post-interview is around 1/3 or so, but probably a little worse for me cause I'm from Toronto. We'll see...fingers crossed and hope for the best. Dean Sanford Keat was so nice, and it was so nice to see that he took the time to spend time with us and get to know us. Realy student centred place. Anyway, take care guys and all the best.

I interviewed for MSTP at UConn back on Nov 6th. It was nicer than I expected it to be. The faculty were very nice, although one of the interviews was playing the ultimate devil's advocate with me. The building is quite the monolith and very nice on the inside. The students were very nice. My car died on 84 at rush hour in Hartford and my host picked me up and called the tow truck, and still bought me dinner despite all of the hastle I brought with me. The dean of admissions was very nice, as was the MSTP director. They made me feel like they really wanted me there, and it definitely won points. I'm a little mixed on the PBL issue. I've experienced them here at Rochester, and it's not quite the same, because normally there is a discovery period where students gather information to present. It seemed a little drawn out given what the case was. Otherwise, it was excellent.

You know what???? They talked about you!! 🙂 Yeah, my flight was cancelled, so I couldn't make it...along with many others that day, but they were talking about someone from Canada that drove down with their family and how they should be let in just because of that! They were really impressed by the fact you made it!

Yeah...I got a ton of questions about the state of the health care system along with questions about my philosophy major and affirmative action.

Karen 🙂

Go CANADA!!!
my mom and my dad went to McMaster.

Power to you, GuesswhozBizzak! You showed some crazy dedication.

I'm starting to worry about my interview - we didn't really talk "in depth" about anything. My faculty interviewer gave me a lot of info about the school and about how similar it was to Mac. He also talked about UConn being separate from main campus, which I was worried about. Hopefully my stats are good enough to make up for the bad parts of my interview. But then, I'm an out of state app too.

I gotta stop stressing about it....
