does anyone know where i can find the rankings for the top 100 med schools or stats for which schools have the best rates of students getting their residency choices?

The standard rankings seem to be the US News rankings. I think you can just go to www.usnews.com and then go to the ranking guide section and figure it out from there. Only thing is that you need to pay money to get all the rankings info. Hope this helps. Cheers.

If you'd like to go down that dark and thankless road, U.S. News is the one that compiles those rankings. You can find them under graduate school rankings. There's also a rankings set called the Gourman Report, I believe, and other resources out there that rank medical schools based on NIH funding received.

I think a search of the Pre-Allopathic forum would find you copious discussion of rankings.

Don't forget that residency placement statistics are a reflection of where people from a given school apply. It is always best to see the actual match list from a school to see if they are placing into the type of programs you may be interested in pursuing, with regards to the field of medicine, geographic location, and type of program (academic, top tier, community based). Probably students from a second tier school aren't all going to be applying to MGH, UCSF, or JHU (etc.), while people from top medical schools will often be applying to those type of residency programs or specialities that are highly competitive.

From my understanding, Gourman has been dead now for 10 years, and the rankings were more just his preference. He never did say how they came about. I think the last one released was in 1996 or so.

Hey Jalby, do you know Chadwick?

Just be careful when reading those rankings...they are usually based on some pretty interesting statistics (like research $$) - they are by no means the best indicator of how good or bad a school is.
