Hi. I am interested in Family Medicine but dont really know which programs are good and which arent. Can someone give a short list of some programs that they would recommend? I saw a list of programs that included good universities but the location was at a satellite location and not at the main hospital, is that common for FM? Any info would be great, thank you.

U.S. News supposedly ranks family medicine programs (so says the Web site, although I couldn't find any specifics), but it's probably as useless as any other list you're likely to find, like the one on Scutwork.com (which, interestingly, includes the program I went to). It's all subjective.

It also depends on what you're looking for. Do you want a hospital-based program? Community-based? Opposed or unopposed? OB-heavy? Procedure-heavy? Big or small? What part of the country? Big city? Rural? Interested in a fellowship afterward? Etc.

Talk with people at your school's family medicine department or at any FM residency programs nearby. They can often be very helpful.
