Quick question, in general, how many rec. letters do schools ask for and who do they need to be from.

Every school has this info on their web site. It is usually 3 to 5 letters.

In general, 2 science and 1 non-science professors "who are familiar with your academic work" or "who have taught you." Some schools ask for a "humanities" professor, and one school asked for 1 bio, 1 phsyics, 1 chem, and 1 humanities." Most will accept extra letters from bosses, etc. but Tulane said not to send more than the required 3.
