who would you guys recomend getting rec from other than teachers. Do names from the school you are applying to help?

Other than teachers, I have a rec from the coordinator of the tutoring program I helped run and from the professor I've been doing research with after graduation. I would definately say they're my best recs because they can both talk about my character and know me extremely well. I'm doing research at Northwestern so I really do hope it counts for something when I apply there.
