Recommendation Letters for Psych Residency

Do any or all programs require a Chairman's Letter from a university Psychiatry Department Chair?

UNC does, per website. I just had a meeting with my Chair strictly to obtain such a letter.

I personally didn't run into any programs that specifically required a chair letter. The only "requirements" I ran into were ones that required two psych letters. That was the exception rather than the rule for programs I applied to, though.

I didn't have one for UNC and they offered me an interview and nobody ever mentioned it at all...

Yeah... it said the same thing for me too so who knows...? I'm not saying you DON'T need it. Just stating what happened to me.
