As the title says, I am in dilemma if I should get rec letters from rom 2 dentists or 1 PI and 1 dentist. My PI was very willing to write me a rec letter for me because I worked in the lab for a year and half. But, I am not really close to my PI because I was always interacting with grad students. I am really concerned to use rec letter from PI because I realized that I don't have much passion in research and don't want research to be focus of my application. Even though I don't know my PI much, PI offered me to write a strong rec letter for me before I asked him. I am really close to two dentists so I am pretty confident that 2 dentists will give me strong letters.

Which would look better: rec letters from 2 dentists or 1 PI and 1 dentist? Would using rec letters from 1 PI and 1 dentist make me seem more diverse?

I think some schools require letters from faculty members or science professors. One dentist is already enough. Even though if you have no passion for research, a PI can provide a very unique perspective on your strengths in the letter (compare to if you go with the second dentist letter).

Thank you! Do you think I should get a rec letter from a PI even though my work was not published and I mostly did basic sample collections in my lab?
