For a practice problem, I was a given the reduction potentials for each half reaction and a balanced equation.

I noticed that the balanced equation showed a different molar coefficient to one of the species and so I multiplied the reduction potential for that half reaction by the molar coeffiencient from the balanced equation.

Needless to say, I got the answer wrong. So, do we not modify the reduction potential in any way except for signage?

Thanks

yup, never multiply the voltage because it is independent of the amount of electrons in the reaction. only switch the sign
