Supposedly we can hit the threshold depolarization with two subthreshold depolarizations if the second one comes in before the first finishes. Supposedly this can occur at the same synapse.

Doesn't this contradict the fact that you can't get polarization during the absolute refractory period?

There's no contradiction here, because there's no absolute refractory period following a sub-threshold depolarization, unlike an action potential.
