Hello,

As I am taking several courses for the Fall 2021 term, I am taking several DIY courses; the school where I am taking courses at is offering online and in-person instruction; as I would like to take the online version ( specifically Gen Chem II and a Neurocomputation course), I would like to know if this will place me at any disadvantage particularly at schools that do not accept online work or if these courses are fine given that were are unfortunately still in the midst of a pandemic?

I don't know how if/how these would show up on the AMCAS application as "online". Do keep in mind that GEN CHEM is one of those pre-req courses that is expected to include a lab.

If it's the same course offered both online and in-person, then you should be fine. However, I believe if an adcom member was able to find out that you were given the option to take the course in-person vs online, then it might hurt you, but it's probably unlikely they'll know.

Strongly suggest that you do not take any pre-reqs online

Thank you for this! Right now, my school only offers the prerequisite online (they’re selective about what courses are online/in person due to the pandemic).

is this okay in that context? Or should I wait until the spring to take the in person version?

I wouldn't. The general rule is to take it in person if available. If it's not available, med schools have been understanding since Spring 2020. Why would that change in Fall 2021 when they themselves are still conducting interviews virtually?
