Share your thoughts on the differences in the healthcare field between different regions and states.
Any region that you would love to work in?
Any region that you would never go to?
Why??

Does the location that you go to med school and do your residency in affect your future "hire-ability" in a different region of the county?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

No.

Any region that you would love to work in?

Any place that has minimal malpractice insurance costs.

Any region that you would never go to?

Any place that has high malpractice insurance costs. (Thanks Pennsylvania! 😡) [Note - I currently go to school in PA.]

Yes. Ultimately the attendings you work with during residency will know local private practice groups well. Therefore, you will have a distinct local advantage when applying for jobs compared to say, graduating residents in other parts of the country. If you want to do academics, this advantage is far less pronounced.

As to where I would like to practice, I would say East coast or West coast. I do not mind taking a pay cut to be close to family & friends and both are also areas of the country which have a quality of life which is appealing to me personally.
