Reimbursement for Interview travel and lodging cost

I am actually surprised that would be an option, regardless of what ThirdMolarz says. Otherwise, dental schools could potentially end up spending tens of thousands of dollars to reimburse students who they interviewed but didn't accept. If they did that it would make the interview process a financial liability for the school and they would drop it as a screening tool unless there were conditions in place because 2/3 of the interviewees would ask for their money back every time.

If you are facing financial challenges and need the refund to make ends then I would contact the admission officer of the specific school in question because policies as you know can be really different from one school to another. Otherwise I would do a detailed accounting of what you have spent thus far on interveiws, application fees, taking the DAT, test prep materials, classes this year and use them as a tax write off. Federal reimbursement rates are $0.56 per mile for travel related to education, which can be used as an itemized deduction too. I use all my education related expenses for deductions each year and I get about 50% of my federal with holding back, which has been about $5,500 for each of the last two years.

Can you spend the night at the school housing? Does that cost? Or do y'ou have to find your own housing like a hotel?

If I was strapped for cash, I would spend the night in the rented car from the airport and shower at a local gym or recreation center with a cheap day pass

That is a really excellent idea. If I have interviews that I have to fly to I am totally going to do that. This dental school application experience is probably going to set me back about 3-5K by the time I am done with everything.
