I know this was mentioned in other threads, but I don't remember nobody saying that it actually worked.

I got a pre-secondary rejection from a top 20 school. After talking to a friend who goes there, I decided to sent a letter asking them to reconsider and a week later, I got invited for an interview.

I guess one thing that might have made a difference is that my friend put a good word for me, but now I wish I would have done this with other schools. So, for all the people out there who might have considered this at some point, it can work, and is totally worth it.

Of course, it could possibly only change a pre-secondary rejection to a post-interview rejection, but at least I got the satisfaction of being given a fair shot.

Congrats, I did that at one school and only got another letter saying...Umm Yeah didn't you get the first letter.

Congrats and good luck! I didn't think this was possible.

Thanks! I did not think it was possible either. I was mostly doing it for the satisfaction of knowing that I tried my best.

For those wondering, the school was not UCSF. I addressed the letter to the Adcom.

In so far as structure of the letter (about two pages): I mentioned in the intro that while I had interviewed at other great schools, I was not given the option there. A paragraph mentioning the things I had accomplished in the last six months since the AMCAS. Then wrote about what my future plans are, how the school and its resources fit in that. Gave it to a good friend who is an upper level student there to give it personally to the Dean of Admissions and mention how cool I am. A few days later, I got a response.

i think that works for a presecondary rejection but probably never for a pre or post interview rejection. Some schools will give you a secondary if you get rejected from them presecondary if you challenge them (and they screwed up of course).

i walked into a school that happened at and the dean slapped me and sent me running with my tail between my legs...
