Releasing Step 2 scores

If you marked on ERAS that you do not want step 2 scores automatically released, will programs still be able to see that you passed? Or will they think you did not pass and therefore did not release your score? I took step 2 and passed, but it was not better than my step 1 score so I did not release it... Does anyone know how this works?

If you do not release your scores, programs will have no idea if you passed or failed (or even took it for that matter -- you could've rescheduled it after all).

You do not have to release your Step 2 score in time for the ranking deadline if you think it will adversely affect your match. However, as long as you passed you're gold.
