I live in NYC and am hoping to attend SUNY Downstate, which is where my "daddy" went for his medical education. Should this be perceived as a possible advantage to me during the admissions process? What are possible reasons they'd ask about it on app?

I think that it's an advantage. How much of an advantage probably varies from school to school and by how much Daddy gives to the alumni association each year.

actually I'm hoping that who he became after med school never really comes to light. he destroyed his career right here in Manhattan in a rather prominent way. as far as I know he wasn't part of any alumni "giving" effort... but there's a lot I don't know.

ummmm i'd mention it but not comment on it in any questionable ways
im just going to plug in some kind of " my parents have taught and worked here..blah blah.. i grew up with a strong respect and admiration for your school" type of statement if they question me

it seemed about half the schools asked. I dont see how they could figure it out out if you didnt tell them though. Unless your last name is slothchasinmarkerburger or something.
